Why I Used to Feel Insecure About My Business
Quality courses, quality business
2 years ago, I felt insecure about my business.
Why?
Well, I make money from courses.
I took it to heart when I heard entrepreneurs I admire say "the course business isn't real".
After all, you don't need a big team.
And usually you have a personal brand business, so you can't sell either.
But I'm a little older now. A little wiser. Definitely a little balder.
Here's what I realised:
Online, there are many paths to success. Everyone thinks their's is best. If you're not careful, you end up pulled around by every persuasive opinion.
…And succeed at none.
You must think for yourself and pick the model that suits your aspirations.
Now, I like courses because they are perfect for entrepreneurial writers.
Your business is driven by creativity.
And you’re here to help people get results.
You can't think clearly if your calendar is full of commitments. And you serve best when you have space.
A course is a high-leverage way to help your audience at scale.
You get to share ideas, then invite your audience to invest without spending extra time on fulfillment.
This means you can focus on writing more, and better.
It’s a great win-win.
But…
The course business only works if you create quality assets.
Because there's no smoke without fire: There are a lot of terrible courses out there. Low thought, terribly taught, quick-cash grabs.
When your audience invests in you, they are giving you their trust.
It’s your responsibility to take that seriously. If you don’t, they will never buy from you again.
This is why I launched a program last month to help entrepreneurs properly package their knowledge.
You might have missed that launch as I only offered 10 slots.
But I'll release a more accessible version of the blueprint later in the summer.
If you're a writer who values freedom and wants to make an impact at scale, you'll love what I'm cooking up.
And remember:
Whatever business you build, care about your customers.
In the long run, the writer with the best relationships wins.
Cheers,
Kieran
