The Real Reason You’re Not Connecting With Your Audience
Last week, I was scrolling X when I saw a popular account say this:
“Writing is easy.”
I chuckled.
Because that line is precisely why he’s wrong.
Let me explain.
Writing is tough because you need to make your scrambled and chaotic thoughts presentable to the world.
If you screw it up, there’s no emotional connection.
No resonance.
No ‘Hell Yes’ effect.
But here’s the problem.
You can’t see your readers. So you don’t know how you’re performing.
A comedian knows immediately if their joke isn’t funny. A salesman knows when their pitch isn’t working. Kieran Drew knows quickly that his date is going awfully.
This real-world feedback makes it much easier to adapt (or, in my dating life, stop).
I’m meant to sit here and tell you that writing is easy so you might buy my stuff.
But writing is a one-way conversation.
If you want to establish a connection, you have to present your ideas in a logical order. You have to say the right things. You have to hold attention for large swabs of time (and you’re competing against crap like TikTok).
It isn’t easy.
But it’s not supposed to be.
That’s why the results are so damn good.
Because you’re in the top 1% of your niche if you can write well. This makes business much, much easier.
You’re not stuck in the crowd—you’re leading it.
Now, I’m not the best writer.
But I have gone from zero clue how to write to attracting 240,000 readers and grossing over $900,000 in the past 3 years.
If I can give you one tip, it’s this:
Build systems.
Because a (good) system makes it easy to do the hard thing.
It shows you what to focus on and what to ignore.
It removes friction from the process so you can be more efficient and effective where it counts.
Because getting good at writing is about repetition.
But getting good fast is about repeating the right things.
It’s why both High Impact Writing and Magnetic Emails are system-based techniques for writing well.
I built them for myself. But I’m grateful to say thousands of people have picked up the products. And my value proposition is simple:
I’ve spent thousands of hours iterating so you don’t have to.
If you want help with attracting an audience or sending engaging sales emails, you’ll love what’s inside.
To your writing success,
Kieran
