    Do Storytelling Emails Actually Work?

    By Kieran Drew

After the Magnetic Emails launch in September, a client reached out with concerns.

In the first module, I give 10 rules of Magnetic Emails—but he doubted the third:

    Don’t Educate, Excite.

For reference, Magnetic Emails teaches a simple 6-step system for writing engaging sales emails.

Inside, I explain that the best sales emails don’t focus on teaching or mindless pitching. They weave ideas together with stories, anecdotes, metaphors, analogies, and other trust-building tools. They focus on sharing your worldviews and beliefs whilst you sell.

    My client was skeptical.

He explained some of the emails he loves to read are teaching-heavy—without the malarkey mentioned above. And to be fair, I had doubts when I first started story-based selling because most sales emails seem so… lazy.

I sent a video clarifying why the Magnetic Email approach works (I’ve summarised some of what I said below).

I hoped he was on board, but I didn’t hear from him again for weeks.

As I began to think he disagreed with my advice, he emailed this:

If you don’t have images switched on:

I followed the story-based approach for the launch after watching this, and had a $16k launch, which was completely insane. It’s the first time I’ve done something like this so it was a big success, and both your emails and course were a huge resource for me. I actually went through lots of the emails you wrote for Magnetic Emails and used them for inspiration for mine, there was a lot of useful stuff in there throughout.*

*note: the emails he refers to are the 16 breakdowns I provide inside the course. These are over-the-shoulder recordings of my writing, plus breakdowns of the copywriting techniques.

Now, I was subscribed to his list because he is an early authority in a space I’m interested in (I’ve kept him anonymous since mentioning revenue).

    And let me tell you:

    His launch emails were great.

Genuinely interesting, brand-building stuff. I learned loads about him and his approach. And to mop up five figures on his first launch is fantastic (my first was only $5k!).

So let me tell you two reasons why the Magnetic Email approach is crucial.

    First is memorability.

Your audience is bombarded with thousands of pieces of content each day. And let’s be real with each other: we’re all saying the same thing.

But whilst there may be no new ideas, there are new stories—fresh angles on old advice.

If people were happy the first time they heard an idea, information would be a dead business. But your audience is searching for someone who can create insights—the ‘aha’ moment—by shining a new light on their problems.

This is how you stay top of mind, and the Magnetic Emails approach follows a structured system to create this effect.

    The second point is connection.

In such a superficial content world, connection has never been more important.

Because when an audience first meets you, they think:

    “I don’t trust you.”

“I don’t believe you can help.”

“I don’t understand what makes you different.”

Fail to change their mind and you never break through the ceiling of skepticism that prevents entrepreneurs from selling at scale.

Which is the magic of story-driven emails.

Sure, they might require more effort to write. But that effort pays for itself tenfold. And you don’t need to share complicated stories either. You just need to frame your ideas so people believe what you say before you sell.

If you’d like to nail this process, Magnetic Emails is for you.

Each step of the system is designed to build trust, demonstrate expertise, and prove you’re worth paying attention to.
